Art Journal Work in Progress

I'm starting to think I will never be an art journaler. I've taken some workshops, and have really enjoyed them, but I find it hard to continue. The page you see above has been sitting in my art journal for weeks, waiting for some various papers and text to be added,  but I couldn't get motivated. Finally I sat down and sketched what came naturally to me. So maybe this is how my journals will look, since there really is no right way to do them.
She's not done yet, and I think I will add song lyrics to the left hand side, even though I have terrible handwriting, lol!
Not sure what else I will do, maybe some stamping in white would be nice. I love those foam stamps you can buy in Walmart or Michaels, they're great to work with.
Once this page is done I will show it here.

thanks for reading!

She is beautiful Betty! I am not a journaler either. I bought one but i write my ideas and sketches in it but nothing I would ever share. I just can't draw like most people, it usually sucks. lol

She is so pretty, I am one of those 'can't journal' types, I don't know why but it's just not for me, I don't like sketching either, most of the time I just work straight to canvas...lol ;)

I love your sketch...she is fabulous! Yes a journal is supposed to be all about you!! No wrong or right way at all! I on the other hand, don't keep up with my journals either. I start them and then they get pushed aside as I begin working on other projects. Sigh!

Betty she is so beautiful! I love her! And love the background pages! I have not done an art journal but with my writing journals I never keep up with them! So I can relate to this post! :)

She is beautiful. I am just now exploring journaling, The jury is still out on whether I will like that format or not.

Trust me, you have gotten MUCH farther in your art journal than I have in mine! I have simply a background - no art and no words! LOL The girl is beautiful - and I think adding song lyrics that are very meaningful to you is a GREAT idea. :) Who knows? It might even inspire you to create more pages! Theresa

That's a fab background and painting whatever you decide to do with it. I know what you mean about art journalling. I struggle with it. I guess my blog is really my journal and I'll write something often inspired by my art. It certainly seems to come much more naturally to some people.

It does take a lot of effort to journal but in the end you will always love looking through your finished pages. Have a great week Betty!

I keep thinking I'm going to journal and haven't done it yet. Your journal is looking great! It's yours, do it any way that you want! Just like you said, there are NO RULES!

Are the song lyrics some you have written?

I love the details of her face. I understand it taking time with each piece, wondering how it will unfold and then a moment comes and the next step is clear. I look forward to seeing her when you are complete.

Very pretty! Love her expression. I have the same problem with my handwriting. I'm not very confident about it. Love your work! :)

Betty I think she is lovely. I admire any artist that works on art journalling. I gave it a go about a year ago, but wasn't very diligent with it - two pages and that was it and then I seemed to lose interest.

I would love to see your pages when they are done.

Thank you so much for your kind words on my blog the other day. They mean alot.

Hugs,

Sue

Hi Betty! Your pages are looking lovely already. I've so neglected my art journal lately. Your background is fabulous. I can totally see lyrics/words. Continued creative blessings to you! :)

Yeah, I'm just not into journaling, I once got one of those cute books for writing all your baby's antics, forgot to write in it found it a couple of years ago in a box of old books, wrote the baby's name and date he was born... thats it...! lol! I wish i would have written more but... he's 18 now , kinda late, huh?

Any way good luck with it, but your girl is sweet as always!

I feel exactly the same. :) I will never be an art journaler no matter how much I want it. I have unfinished stuff in it but I don't care. :)

She's lovely! It's such a treat to visit your blog, Pink! I was intrigued by the bat post too - wow, I think I'd have run for the hills! Oh, the art journal..I think you're doing this the right way - taking it as you have inspiration and then letting it sit..I think we all put such pressure on ourselves, but in the end, it is you who comes through and the end result becomes a reflection of moments throughout the process. I hope that you are finding the process wonderful! I am glad for your recent visit!

I think the more you journal the easier it will become...I did the first page of mine the other day and it is part of a poem by my favorite poet, ee cummings...I wrote it out in big letters and drew some hearts and things...it is so easy to look at all of the other art journals and compare yours with them...but, it is about what makes YOU happy...i need to get to that place as well...you may start a page and see something in a magazine or at a store that you want to add to it months later...that is ok :) I was in Michaels today...man, I could spend a small fortune in there so easily...anyway, just buying a few canvases and some new paints inspires me...pick an emotion you have been feeling lately...and go with it...I have struggled with loving myself...I grew up with a very critical father and an abstentee mom...loving myself does not come easy...so this is the theme I am going to go with...loving myself and accepting myself for who I am...pick a theme and find stuff that fits...good luck and I look forward to seeing more from you :)
