My First Art Journal Page

Hello dear friends! I was so looking forward to this weekend, after a crazy and busy time at work. I woke up to a very dreary, gloomy day.

This didn't bother me though. I was quite happy, because I planned to work on my Visual Journalism class. I have fallen behind, and wanted to take the weekend to go through my notes, and finish some pages. What a fun class! So new for me, but this is something I can see myself continuing. It felt awkward, since I have never done an art journal before, but with Pam Carriker's step by step lessons, I felt a bit more confident. My page is not perfect, but I can honestly say I am happy with the end result.

We tend to get discouraged if our first try at something new doesn't look like what we think it should look like.
I always believe that in order to grow in anything, you must practice practice practice. The beautiful artwork I see online didn't happen over night. The artists worked at it, learning from each mistake. Well, I hope to make plenty of mistakes in my Art Jourals :-D

I love your journal page and have heard nothing but good reports about the class you are taking from others that are taking it. Looking forward to seeing some more of your pages.

Your page is awesome! Isn't it fun? And the more you do, the more you want to do, it's so addicting. A great way to stretch your creative muscles:-)

Fabulous! I want to start a journal too, I have the blank ones to fill, but feel like I need a class to get started. It seems silly that a blank journal could be so intimidating!! I love your blog and art!

Your page looks great! Even if there were mistakes no one would know it but you. Thanks for the encouraging words about starting out on something new. Too often we want the perfect results without the experimenting and trying (and yes maybe even mistakes) that go along with it.

I like your girls. You have a wonderfully active imagination. Thanks for stopping by my blog and commenting. I'm very excited about Willowing's class and can't wait for it to start. =) In the mean time I'm just messing around with some paintings I have on my desk. =)

I think your page is wonderful! I started a journal about a year ago and I am still struggling with it. Time and practice, I guess!! Keep up the good work - you did great!!!

I love this - the end result, and the fact that you are happy with it even though it's not as you envisioned it would be.

That was one of the hardest lessons for me: to be happy with my best efforts, and in the process, to learn something new about myself.

Congratulations!

Kate

Your first page?? You are a natural! :) I'm so glad you enjoyed that class and feel inspired by your journal. I have an awful time with keeping up with one but love when I do take the time out to do it. I can see where it is a safe place to experiment and unleash future creativity!

Lovely to read your message this morning. I so want to video the stages. Boo, hoo, will have to wait for a video camera! One day?
