hi folks! I am really behind today. I've been out until a couple of hours ago, and just wasn't feeling up to sketching. I made myself do a quick one though because I did commit to joining in with Blue Chair Diary's weekly sketches. Do check out Sophia's blog for more Sunday Sketches.
The above sketch is an idea I have for my next folk art painting featuring a mother and her little boy and girl. Do you think the boy looks ok? I hope to start it tonight. I wish there was a workshop for folk art paintings, because I find them the most difficult to do. Maybe because I can't paint loosely? Come on folk artists! give up your secrets, lol!
A Page from my Sketchbook
This is almost becoming a regular thing here, I'm on week 6 I think...It's not always easy to find a page to show you, since most of them are in pencil and very light. Also, as you can see with this one, it's filled with tiny unfinished scribbles, haha! so now you know how my mind works. It's pure chaos in there sometimes. I sure envy those artists with beautiful, neatly drawn sketchbook pages, filled with lovely colors. Not mine, I don't think there is a single page in the 4 or 5 sketchbooks I have that actually has color. Don't ask my why, since I probably have every brand of colored pencils known to man...and they just sit in their packages, lonely, wondering when this silly little artist will finally pull them out and use them.
thanks for reading! I'm off to get some work done :-D

Pink, the boy is perfect-Your sketch is going to make a very charming painting. Love your sketch book pages, mine is similar to yours in the fact that it is too light to scan or photograph and I do not use color in mine either.
Oh...love this!! Have you ever though about creating some images for digi stamps? I just love this type of image.
it is so cute and adorable!!!
by the way, i have just become a member of suzi's blu academy and i think (i'm not sure) there is a folk art class! check it!

I think they would make an fabulously sweet painting! Your boy looks great, I have the hardest time drawing boys! They always end up looking like a girl with short hair lol! thanks for your comment, you were so sweet to stop by!!
Hi,
It will make an adorable painting. The kids are just fine, and I love the mom's expression.
I also love seeing your sketches every week...it's so real!
happy sunday, good luck with your painting and I look forward to seeing the finished product!

The boy is great - he looks how my boy feels today :-) Actually this sketch reminds me of me and my children - there is a certain melancholy (and I certainly don't mean me and my kids are generally melancholic we are more three musketeers - oops that's only because dads at work :-) And the sketch is not sad, rather more like family, caring, protective (that word again :-)
Hi Pink! The sketch is adorable, and the boy is precious - the whole family looks so loving and I'm looking forward to seeing it painted. I don't know much about folkart so I can't be of much help, hehehe!
Well let me tell you, all my sketchbooks look like a mess! I have a few neater ones here and there, like the one I posted today, but believe me it's a rare exception. That's where you get all your energy and ideas out, then you can refine them - looks great to me!
Happy SS!
the boy looks sad to me
I don't do much color with my sketches either, I think that's how it should be
I think this is such a charming sketch!! The little boy looks just right. Beautiful!!
Betty, I really adore this sketch. Oh so touching and precious. I cannot wait to see it in colour. Wow! :)
Happy Sunday!
Oh my, you have a talent with drawing eyes!!! I will come back again to check it out
great image
Hi Pink I love your sketch- I love the little girl with a butterfly in her hair in another post she is so cute -I think you paint really good and have a beautiful style.Sometimes we as artist critize our selves and look for something wrong enstead of seeing the beauty in our own work most artists do it.I think having the greatest confidence and believing in our selves and our work is better than taking a class. You have a wonderful talent. Have a Beautiful day!!! Sincerely, Jonny
What would we do with out our sketchbook.
I think the secret to folk art it just be free and it does not have to be perfect. I am no expert but I have a friend who is and she just goes back to child hood. LOL
I love seeing your sketches and then afterwards some of the paintings you have done. This will make a wonderful painting....very sweet and
lots of emotion.
Hugs,
Sue
oh this is wonderful and to think you did it when you weren't feeling up to sketching! I have been thinking of getting a set of colored pencils... I was wondering if you would recommend a brand since you have so many. But it sounds like they sit in their packages... I love your sketch pages.. every artist has their own way of doing things.
Boys are so difficult to draw, but I think youve done a great job here! Cant wait to see it painted :-)
Woderful eye candy!!! Your sketches are so sweet but your paintings are beautiful!!!!!
blessings,flora
How cute are they! Reminds me of me and my two little ones.
Very sweet!
Your sketchbook looks full of ideas. I love it!
Beautiful sketches! I can't wait to see your folk art when it's done!
Love all your sketches. I've been a bad artsy-girl and haven't opened my sketch book in days. You've inspired me to crack it open!
