Antiques, Sunshine and a Sneak peek
hi friends! Today I went to the Annual Christy Antique Show. It is a huge event with many antique vendors. What a fun time! I'm glad I took a camera along, as there was some interesting stuff, lol! like the photo you see above. Don't ask me what it is, haha! maybe paper mache??
The weather was perfect, hot and sunny, no clouds...although I ended up getting a sunburn on my arms. My friend asked if I wanted to use her sunblock before we left the car, and I thought I would be ok without. Well I was wrong, after a few hours in the heat, I was searching out shaded areas for relief.
I didn't buy too much as there was so much to look at, it was hard to choose. I picked up some antique cranberry glass buttons and black lace to use in a future painting, and I saw a primitive folk art painting I really liked, see below.
If you haven't been to an antique market or show, you should try it. Even if you are not into antiques. I only started going the last few years, and you never know what you will find. I look for anything to use in art, and have a small collection of antique post cards and ephemera that I use. But then I go and cover them with layers of paint, lol! like my latest painting....I adore her, and she is almost done, so I will show you a teeny tiny sneak peek for now.
I love the look of beeswax on a painting, but it tends to dull it, which is the whole point....for this particular painting I used more subdued color, so I'm debating whether I should use a gloss varnish to add some shine.....once I finish, I will show it.
thanks for reading!

Lucky you! I haven't been to the Christy Antique Show in years and I love it and today was perfect weather for it - no humidity!
I like your painting. Not sure if I would put a gloss varnish on it or not. Maybe a satin gloss, but don't think I would put a high gloss on her.
Sue:)
Sounds like a great show...lucky you!!
The globe lady made me smile!!
And your painting looks marvelous. I like bees wax too!

you're so sweet! thanks for stopping by my blog and your wonderful words of reassurance, I always feel better after sweet comments like yours!
I love to go to antique shows although I can never find any close to where I live, but the very few I've gone I find great stuff! Oh and your painting looks fantastic... it left me wanting to see more! :D Patti
SIGH!!!! Thanks for sharing this great post. I am sad as I only live about an hour from there and it would have been the perfect weekend to go..

Hi Betty - I'm just loving that sneak-peek! Sounds like you had a terrific time at the market - sorry about the sunburn. It's that time of year already. Have a great week! Lisa
Sounds like a wonderful fun day. I like the folk painting also. Can't wait to see the finished picture. You asked why I didn't like H2O oils, it is because they take too long to dry inbetween layers and I'm not that patient.
Dear Pink,
Thanks for stopping by my blog. And I can completely understand being horse-obsessed and not having one. I didn't get my first horse until I was 54. Hang in there — hope springs eternal, and it's never too late!
Love your art.
Leah
I'm looking forward to seeing the finished product! :) Happy Memorial day.
It sounds as though you had a wonderful time at the market, I enjoy doing that once in a while. Thanks for the reminder about getting sunburned. I tend to think I will be ok as well. The glimpse of your painting is wonderful!
Hey girl!
I'm addicted to your work! I just bought 2 of your ATC's over at etsy- LOVE them! Hope you are having a great weekend! xOxO
Sounds like a grand time - the new sneak peek looks good too!
Thanks for stopping by with your kind words
