The human spirit is not dead. It lives on in secret.... It has come to believe that compassion, in which all ethics must take root, can only attain its full breadth and depth if it embraces all living creatures and does not limit itself to mankind. ~Albert Schweitzer, Novel Peace Prize address, "The Problem of Peace in the World Today
hello friends, this is a quick post of my latest illustration on a vintage book page. Way back in September I happened to see 2 foxes in one day. I was going shopping with a friend to Toronto, we saw a man on a tractor of sorts, cutting hay. At the edge of a field was a wooded area, and that's where we saw a fox, standing still looking at the man. For some reason I felt a great sadness when I saw it, maybe because I see daily more and more land being developed, leaving wildlife with nowhere to go.
On the way home driving down a country road, we saw another fox on the side of the road. I have never seen a fox in person, so imagine how strange it felt to see 2 in one day. I knew I wanted to draw them, so here is my first fun one.
I've been putting the finishing touches on my Christmas decorating as well as working on some art. The decorating is done, so I can finally relax, and get caught up on my blog reading. I will be posting photos of my funky little tree soon, it's quite the spectacle, lol!
thanks for your comments on my snow angel last post, I did a test with a sheet of clear paper with the words on it and decided I would leave it alone. I will be visiting your blogs soon :-)

I love your fox too, and the fact that it's on a book page--you could do a whole series. I've never seen a fox either--how cool-it almost seems like they were lost--kind of sad.
P.S. Your angel is wonderful!!
Adorable fox. I have never seen one in the flesh but would love to. They are very pretty creatures.
I love this fox picture and the tree. Also like the quote. Thanks!
This is so sweet!
I was concerned to see a fox roaming the school yard - while school was in session. It was last winter and on my trip back east. Very populated area and there was snow so the fox was so very visible against the white background.
What a beautiful fox. That is strange to see 2 in one day.
Can't wait to see your Christmas tree, mine will be going up in a day or so!
wow, 2 in one day. that must be good luck. i have never seen one in person, yours is adorable.
you are lucky to have finished decorating...a great feeling. enjoy your day! xo
What a sweet little fox! :) I love your book page illustrations. That must be interesting to see them in person too! ~Lauren
Wonderful little fox!! I've seen a few on the golf course but never in the city. Raccoons on the other hand, every garbage night or whenever I have bread in my garbage (and the next day it's upended and all over the ground)they are there.
Your little fox illustration is beautiful. There was a reason that you saw two of these lovely creatures in a single day. Wonderful work! Theresa
I love the fox..This summer I saw a red fox behind our house. I had never saw one either in person. He stopped and looked at me and then he was gone..
Wow seeing two must mean something.
Awwwwwwwww. Love your little fox. I see them every once in a while where I live. This would make a nice childrens illustration.
Betty, I love this little guy, great job! I feel the same way, with all the land disappearing. Somedays, it makes me cry! I get so happy when I see the birds and squirrels! I can just imagine how you felt seeing the foxes ;o)
Betty seeing two in one day is amazing. I have only ever seen one around here, which is relatively rural (north east of Toronto). Your rendition of a fox is perfect! Absolutely perfect!
Hugs,
Sue
